DESCRIPTION OF THE BARBERA SUPERIORE PIRA
Luigi Pira's Barbera d’Alba Superiore has its roots in the depths of the Langhe or, more precisely, in the hills of Serralunga. It is an enveloping and full-bodied red, determined by taste and complexity. It represents the development of that path that led Luigi Pira to vinify his grapes, once sold to the surrounding wineries. It was the great love for quality and for its territory that led Luigi Pira's business, supported by his family, towards the creation of a winery that knew how to give expression to its great grapes.
Luigi Pira Barbera d’Alba Superiore comes from 2 hectares of vineyards grown near the town of Roddino. These are 18-year-old vines, planted on calcareous soil located at an altitude of 420 meters above sea level. The grapes are carefully selected during the harvest and then transported to the cellar. Here they are pressed, transformed into must and sent to alcoholic fermentation. This is followed by aging in wooden containers of different sizes.
The color of Luigi Pira's Barbera Superiore is ruby red, intense and developed on warm tones. Its scent is layered in a bouquet of red fruits, such as cherry and blackberry jam, cooked plum and carnelian; expresses floral notes of geranium and evolves into toasted notes reminiscent of chocolate and the more spicy ones of cinnamon. In the mouth it is enveloping, soft and velvety. The freshness that typically distinguishes the grape outlines the finesse of the sip. The tannin is not very marked, giving a barely hinted at. It is a full-bodied red that plays on balance and its captivating character: it is impossible to say no.
Intense ruby red color
Scent Complex, of fruits of the undergrowth, notes of officinal herbs and light toasted hints
Taste Enveloping, balanced, dry and persistent
