Merk: Vini d'annata
Feudi di San Gregorio Patrimo IGT 1999
An extraordinary wine, “born by chance” from a historic vineyard in the heart of Irpinia; Merlot is atypical and unique thanks to the contribution of our territory. This is a unique interpretation of this international variety proposed by Feudi di San Gregorio.
Denomination: Campania Rosso IGT
Grape: Merlot
Maturation: Minimum 18 months in French barriques of medium toast
Aging: 10 months in bottle
Organoleptic examination:Ruby red, clear and imprenitable at the same time. Perfumes of marmalade of delicate black fruits are evident, as are sweet spices, eucalyptus, vanilla and coffee. The tannins are sweet, fine and soft, the total balance is one of harmony. The finish has a long persistence of sensations of fruit, spices and roasted coffee.
Food pairings: Extraordinary on its own, it pairs well with roasted or stewed red meats, as well as great cheeses.
The vine
Merlot is a black berried-grape, whose origins seemed to date back to the 1700s in the Southeast of France. The name Merlot derives from the particular predilection of the blackbird (merlo) for its fruits. In Italy, ideal environmental conditions have been found since the end of the 1800s, growing in many regions, with the results at times surprising. Its interpretations as a stand-alone variety have been of great enological interest, precisely because Merlot, in adapting to many diverse climates, it has displayed a versatile, a but at the same time, strong personality.
