Since 1990, the Petrilli family processes only tomatoes, which they grow themselves.
Ciro Sirena, an old farmer, gave them the tomato seeds from which the Petrilli family has pulled their tomato bushes. The farmer gave them the seeds of three delicious varieties of tomatoes: San Marzano, Torremaggiorese and Prunilli.
The latter is a hardy species that grows well in dry soils, but yields only 100 quintals per hectare, as opposed to 1000 quintals yield per hectare in the industry.
The Petrilli family has worked since 1988 with the techniques of organic farming. The harvest is done by hand and Masseria La Motticella uses for their products only home-grown ingredients.
