DESCRIPTION OF THE BAROLO RISERVA VIGNA RIONDA
Barolo Vigna Rionda is one of the most representative wines of the Serralunga d'Alba area, always known for its ability to deliver austere and powerful products, often compared to the greatest wine jewels of Burgundy for its wide aging potential over time and for its unrivaled aromatic complexity.
To understand the extraordinary uniqueness of the Vigna Rionda cru it is necessary to carefully observe the microclimatic peculiarities of this small patch of land, starting from its position with respect to the ridge that cuts Serralunga d'Alba in two. The few crus facing in the direction of Monforte d'Alba enjoy, in fact, compared to those on the left of the ridge, the protection of the hill of Castelletto from north-west winds (very important for the return of winter cold) and an almost total exposure to the afternoon heat, which in summer can reach very high temperatures; these conditions, which border on the optimum for the long vegetative-productive cycle of Nebbiolo, favor in the wine produced there the wide development of aromatic precursors whose fineness is measurable only in the long term.
The Vigna Rionda cru develops on this last side of the Serralunga ridge, renowned for its ability to produce a rigid and powerful wine style, which can evolve in periods of aging that are much longer than the products of other neighboring crus, to the point that Most of the producers still operating in this parcel rely on aging times in wood and in bottles ranging from at least five to ten years.
The Massolino family, owner for generations of a splendid portion of the central nucleus of Vigna Rionda, has made the Barolo produced here its workhorse, so much so as to insert the wording in their company name, raising it to the maximum symbol of their production. Having the opportunity to taste Massolino's Barolo Vigna Rionda is equivalent to touching the maximum apex of the expressiveness of this type: it rests the historical sense of Barolo, delivered to us intact by a centuries-old tradition capable of materializing the spirit of time.
Deep garnet red color
Scent Complex, floral and spicy, with notes of dried rose, coffee, strawberry and licorice
Taste Intense and concentrated, with great structure and a lively tannic texture
