DESCRIPTION OF BARBERA D'ALBA 'SAN MICHELE'
Barbera San Michele di Malverà is a soft and complex red, a splendid ally of the daily table. The brothers Massimo and Roberto Damonte are the guardians of a large park planted with vineyards in the Cuneo area, and despite the 45 hectares they have always chosen to favor the qualitative rather than the quantitative aspect. The vines, all owned, are managed organically and are cultivated with the most important local indigenous vines such as Nebbiolo, Barbera, Brachetto and Arneis as well as small quantities of Riesling and Sauvignon. A wide range of labels, which stands out for its constant quality level and for the extremely advantageous price quality: you need to make room in the cellar!
The red Barberà is produced from grapes in purity of the homonymous vine, coming exclusively from the San Michele vineyard located in the historic hill of Canale. Vineyard grown exclusively in Barbera, the San Michele, which covers about 2.5 hectares, has very old vines having been planted in 1929. After the harvest which generally takes place in October and the destemming, the must is fermented in steel containers at a controlled temperature and then aged for 18-20 months in wooden barrels. A further stop in glass precedes the placing on the market.
Barbera wine reveals itself in the glass with an intense and concentrated ruby red color. From the first smell it reveals all its fullness of fruit, proposing in succession plum, blueberries and currants followed by sweet notes of white chocolate and vanilla. The material perceived by the nose is also found on tasting, where the wine fills the mouth with a soft and velvety texture, enlivened on the finish by a right dose of freshness and flavor. Table wine of great elegance, it enhances meat-based dishes such as pork fillets or roasts, as well as mushroom risotto and richly seasoned first courses.
Ruby red color
Scent Fruity, of plums, cassis, cherries and herbal notes
Taste Smooth, structured, fresh and with fruity returns
